It's not yet December, but New York City still (technically) saw its first snowflakes of the season as a mid-week blast of cold weather sweeps through the area.
The bitter cold kept temperatures downright frigid Tuesday: Highs barely topped the freezing mark throughout the day, with earlier wind chills in the teens and 20s.
Because of that bitter cold, there was a chance NYC would see some snow in the morning and afternoon. Wednesday doesn't appear to be all that much warmer. It will be chilly and breezy for Wednesday evening's Christmas in Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting. While it will remain chilly, there is no precipitation in the forecast for the night, with partly cloudy skies expected.
Fortunately the big chill is short-lived, however, with temperatures rebounding to near-50 on Thursday (which is also the last day of 2023's hurricane season).
Friday's highs get to 50 with another round of rain by evening. There’s a chance of rain early next week, too, along with a potentially soaking storm taking shape shortly after.
Meteorological winter begins Friday, Dec 1.
