Hey New York, you're in for a rainy end to 2024.
For most of the day leading up to the big New Year's Eve festivities, the weather will actually be quite nice.
In fact, we’ll see a good amount of sunshine Tuesday morning. From morning runs to last minute trips to the grocery store, weather will cooperate nicely – until the sun sets and the celebrations ramp up.
New Year's Eve revelers should prepare for showers to stick around for most of the night, through midnight at least. After the ball drops at midnight, the skies will start to dry out into the early hours of 2025.

If you are among the one million revelers planning on braving the elements to ring in the new year in Times Square, umbrellas are not allowed, so you’re going to want a poncho. Thankfully, flooding isn’t a concern, but showers will be steady to heavy at times, so if you’re not prepared you’ll get soaked.
While we don't expect severe weather, there may be some thunder as the showers move through.

The one silver lining is that temperatures will at least be mild through the evening. As we near midnight, temperatures in NYC are still hovering near 50 degrees; that’s a good 10 degrees above average high temperatures for this time of year; 20 degrees above average lows.
After we move past the holiday, there's a big chill in store for the tri-state.
A prolonged chill starts Thursday and wind chills could be in the teens and 20s for several days. Bundle up!
