Admit it, you at least thought about turning on the A/C Thursday. You may have had to actually do it on Friday.

Once again, temperatures in the tri-state climbed above 90 degrees for multiple locations, including New York City. Central Park and all three major NYC-area airports (JFK, LaGuardia and Newark) set new daily heat records for the second straight day, as Newark reached the highest mark at 92 degrees. Central Park hit 91, while LaGuardia hit 89 and JFK reached 82 — each one breaking marks set back in the 1940s.

Islip, Bridgeport and Poughkeepsie all reached record highs as well Bridgeport shattered its previous daily high of 73 degrees as it hit 87 on Friday. Long Island and coastal Connecticut saw cooler temps Friday, thanks to the onshore wind.

An air quality alert is in effect for New York City, parts of the Hudson Valley and much of northeastern New Jersey through Friday night amid concerns over high ozone levels Friday afternoon. Check weather alerts here.

It comes amid unseasonably warm temperatures.

Friday's most elevated fire danger, meanwhile, is confined to Connecticut following an exhaustive week that saw wildfires engulf thousands of acres in New Jersey. The largest of those fires, the Kanouse Wildfire, was 95 percent contained as of Friday night, after spreading to 972 acres.

That didn't stop a major brush fire from erupting in Rockland County Friday afternoon. Chopper 4 was over the scene as flames chewed through acres and acres of woods off Haverstraw Road.

The risk diminishes for all by the weekend.

As of 3pm this afternoon, the New Jersey forest fire service said that the West Milford fire remains just under 1,000 acres in size. Pat Battle reports.

We're looking at a chance of thunderstorms Saturday as showers move in by late morning, though severe weather is not likely. More rain is expected Sunday night -- this time in sprinkle form -- as high temps hover in the mid-60s.

Then we've got cooling temps and a few more showers Monday before a strong reality check hits Tuesday, with highs expected to fall back into the 50s. Expect more seasonable temperatures for the better part of next week.
