Federal agents are warning shoppers about the rise in fake items ahead of the holiday shopping season. It comes after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul detailed a major shoplifting operation in Queens in which the suspects allegedly stole $2 million in items and then resold the pilfered goods. NBC New York’s Gaby Acevedo reports.

Law enforcement officials say they have broken up a shoplifting ring that stole nearly $2 million in merchandise from well-known stores and resold the items in New York City as well as in the Dominican Republic. The group stole perfumes, cosmetics, clothes and other beauty items from stores ranging from Sephora, Ulta Beauty, Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret and American Eagle.
