The number of dead and missing in massive flooding and landslides in the Philippines has reached nearly 130 and the president says many areas remain isolated.

The Philippine police said Friday it has launched a search after gunmen reportedly abducted an American national, who was shot in the leg as he tried to resist before being spirited away from a southern Philippine coastal town by speedboat.

Officials say a storm has unleashed pounding rains that set off landslides and flooded northern Philippine areas overnight into Monday, leaving at least 14 people dead.
