The Parade of Nations at the Opening Ceremony is always a highlight of any Olympics, and that will definitely be true at the Paris Olympics where for the first time, the ceremony won't take place in a stadium, but rather on the Seine River.

"Winding their way from east to west, the 10,500 athletes will cross through the centre of Paris, the overall playing field for the Games on which these competitors will display their sporting prowess over the next 16 days," according to the Olympics website. "The parade will come to the end of its 6-kilometre route in front of the Trocadéro, where the remaining elements of Olympic protocol and final shows will take place."

Construction on the parade route begin in mid-June for this year's ceremony. 94 boats will carry the athletes down the Seine.

What is the Parade of Nations at the Olympics Opening Ceremony?

It is the world’s first official introduction to that year’s Olympians, although some events have actually already started prior to the Opening Ceremony.

The parade has been an Olympic ritual since the first march at the 1908 Games in London.

How is the order of the Parade of Nations decided?

The countries in between are arranged in alphabetical order. But remember, that’s based on the alphabetical order in the language of the host country, in this case, French.

When will Team USA march in the Opening Ceremony?

Because the United States (Los Angeles) will be hosting the next Summer Olympics in 2028, the U.S. will march in the second to last position, number 204.

Australia, which is hosting the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, will march third-to-last.

France, as the host country, will march last.

When is the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony?

The Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony is slated for Friday, July 26. Events are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. local time, which is 1:30 p.m. ET and 10:30 a.m. PT.

The ceremony will reair later Friday in Primetime on NBC.
