Katie Ledecky again showcased her dominance in the freestyle.
Ledecky finished the 200m freestyle qualifiers with a time of 1:55.28, good for first out of all four heats. And in the Olympic debut of the 1500m freestyle, Ledecky set the Olympic record, finishing first in the qualifiers with a time of 15:35.35.
Allison Schmitt also qualified for the semifinals of the 200m freestyle for the Americans, finishing with a time of 1:57.20. It was the 12th-best time out of the competitors. Erica Sullivan will join Ledecky in the 1500m finals, ending the heats with a time of 15:46.67, good for third.

Kate Douglass finished first in the heats for women's 200m individual medley with a time of 2:09.16. Alex Walsh also advanced, coming in fourth with a time of 2:09.94.
Both Zach Harding and Gunnar Bentz advanced in the men's 200m butterfly. Harding finished fourth overall with a time of 1:54.92, while Bentz's time of 1:55.36 was good for 11th.
