Washington took a 20-18 edge after one quarter, and stretched its lead to 43-32 with a little more than three minutes left. But the Nets ended the half with a 10-2 run, during which Lopez had eight points, to get within 45-42 at the break.

A Harris jumper three minutes into the third quarter put the Nets ahead by a 52-49 score, but New Jersey went cold for the next 5 1/2 minutes. Washington took advantage with a 21-7 run, which Andray Blatche ended with a free throw to boost his team's lead to 70-59 with 3 1/2 minutes to play.

A Butler basket just before the third quarter ended gave the Wizards an 80-65 lead and prime position down the stretch.

The Nets made a run in the final stanza, using a 13-1 burst to get within 85-80 just before the midway point of the quarter. But Washington responded with a 9-1 surge -- James made back-to-back layups to put the Wizards up 94-81, and they held on for the final 3 1/2 minutes for the win.
