Mikaela Shiffrin fell short of the podium in a fourth consecutive event at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
In the women's downhill on Monday night, Shiffrin posted a time of 1:34.36. She was initially in 11th place but dropped to 18th by the time the event was over.
This was the first time Shiffrin competed in the downhill at an Olympics.
Switzerland's Corinne Suter won the downhill with a time of 1:31.87 to earn her first Olympic medal. Suter beat out Italy's defending Olympic champion Sofia Goggia, who finished in 1:32.03. Italy claimed two medals in the event, with Goggia taking silver and Nadia Delago (1:32.44) taking bronze.
Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel, the reigning silver medalist, came in 14th with a time of 1:33.97.

Shiffrin didn't have the best run of the four Americans competing, as Keely Cashman (1:34.13) finished one spot ahead of Shiffrin in 17th. Jacqueline Wiles (1:34.60) came in 21st while Alix Wilkinson was one of five skiers who failed to finish the race.

Shiffrin skied out on the first run in each of her first two events at the 2022 Games -- the slalom and giant slalom -- before finishing ninth in the super-G, which was another event she raced in for the first time at an Olympics.
The three-time Olympic medalist will have one more shot at an individual medal in Beijing with the combined event. Shiffrin won silver in the combined at the 2018 PyeongChang Games.
