Journalists covering the Sochi Winter Olympics are generating buzz with social media posts focusing not on the competition that kicks off Thursday, but stray animals, strange translations and squalid hotel accommodations.
As previous reports of hotel renovations and twin toilets have suggested, facilities in the resort city may be less than ideal. Stories and social media complaints about the shortcomings have inspired a #SochiProblems hashtag and a Twitter account that has attracted more than 70,000 followers.
Some Twitter users have fired back and said journalists need to tamp down the grumbling about the sub-par accommodations. The Atlantic Wire took a creative approach to rating some journalists' tweets by dividing them up into "real problems" and "first world problems."
