Purple Heart Ceremony 7 Decades in the Making

Ninety-four-year-old 2nd Lt. John Pedevillano is finally receiving a Purple Heart seven decades after his service. The World War II veteran was a bombardier in a B-17 that was shot down over Nazi Germany in April 1944. After he was freed by Allied forces and sent home in 1945, Pedevillano was too modest to seek recognition. It was his daughter who tracked down his military records in 2015 and worked to get him his due.
