Brent Musburger, one of the most recognized and prominent voices in sports television, will call his final game Jan. 31 on ESPN as the Kentucky Wildcats host the Georgia Bulldogs at Rupp Arena.
And amid the host of farewells the veteran sportscaster is receiving, one in particular is standing out. It's from Katherine Webb, the woman who's career was sparked by Musburger's off the cuff comment about her physical appearance. Webb was in the stands of an Alabama and Notre Dame game in 2013, on hand to support her then beau, now husband, AJ McCarron. McCarron is now a backup QB with the Cincinnati Bengals. Musburger took notice.
“You quarterbacks, you get all the good looking women, what a beautiful woman, wow!” Musburger said in the midst of the broadcast as the camera panned to Webb for a lingering look.
Musburger took some heat for the comment at the time. Some went as far as to call him a dirty old man for making the remarks about Webb. For her part, Webb said the comment didn't bother her and once the clip when viral, her career took off.
Among those taking notice was Donald Trump, who owned the USA Pageant at the time and offered Webb a position as a Miss USA judge. She also accepted an offer from Inside Edition to cover Super Bowl XLVII and landed a spot as a contestant on "Splash," formerly known as "Celebrity Diving." Webb also appeared as a model in the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Webb took to social media to give Musburger a sendoff.
