Defending World Champ Drops 432 Pounds on Neck

After dropping a 432-pound barbell on the back of his neck, the defending Olympic champion has withdrawn from the men's super heavyweight competition. Matthias Steiner of Germany lost his balance trying to lift 196 kilograms-about 432 lbs-in his second lift during the snatch portion of the competition. He was not seriously injured but taken to the hospital for precautionary X-rays, officials said.
