The two Prince William County police officers who were shot and injured while responding to a domestic violence call in Woodbridge last week are "recovering well," the police department said Friday.
Officers David McKeown, 33, and Jesse Hempen, 31, were shot Feb. 26 in an incident in which a fellow officer -- 28-year-old Officer Ashley Guindon -- was fatally wounded during her first shift on the job.
Crystal Hamilton, 29, the wife of shooting suspect Ronald Hamilton, was found dead in the couple's Woodbridge home. Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday, March 5, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Prince William County Police say Crystal Hamilton called 911 on the evening of Feb. 26 evening after getting into an altercation with her husband. Investigators believe Crystal Hamilton was killed before officers arrived. The Hamiltons' 11-year-old son was also home at the time of the shooting, but wasn't injured.
Ronald Hamilton then confronted and shot all three responding officers when they approached the couple's front door, according to court documents.
Guindon died of her injuries. McKeown and Hempen were rushed to a hospital.
"Officers Hempen and McKeown are recovering well," read a tweet from Prince William County Police on Friday morning. "Families have asked for privacy but are appreciative of the support."
