Woman Killed by Jeep Driven by Off-Duty NJ Police Detective

An off-duty police detective driving a Jeep struck and killed a woman who was crossing the street, authorities said Saturday.

Jake Pascucci, 28, was driving his Jeep Cherokee southbound on Ocean Avenue in Long Branch on Friday night when he struck the woman, Monmouth County prosecutors said.

Karen Borkowski, 60, of Stanhope, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

No charges have been filed. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

The prosecutor's office is handling the investigation instead of city police to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Detective Eric Kerecman at 800-533-7443
