Woman Gives Birth in Hospital Parking Lot

The woman gave birth around 6:25 a.m. Sunday in an ambulance that had just pulled in to the parking lot of Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch

A New Jersey woman tried her best to reach the hospital before her baby was born, but in the end she came up a little short.

The Asbury Park Press reports that the woman gave birth around 6:25 a.m. Sunday in an ambulance that had just pulled in to the parking lot of Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. There were no complications, and mother and child were both doing fine on Monday.

Authorities say the woman and the child's father were driving on the Garden State Parkway, headed to the hospital in their own vehicle, but called for an ambulance when they realized they wouldn't make it in time.

The ambulance initially stopped in a drug store parking lot because it appeared the woman was about to give birth, but that proved to be a false alarm. It then went on to the hospital, and the child was born a short time later.

The woman's name was not released, but authorities say the baby is her second child.
