The woman jumped off the MTA bus as it was moving in Flatlands, after she was seen kicking chairs and windows while demanding to be let off. She forced her way out of a door, and apparently hit a pole on the sidewalk that bounced her back into the bus, suffering fatal injuries. NBC New York’s Gaby Acevedo reports.
A woman was kicked off an MTA bus in Brooklyn for what witnesses described as "acting out," kicking at chairs and windows, then was struck and killed by the vehicle, which hadn't come to a complete stop, police say.
The driver went to pull the B41 bus over to let her off near Avenue P and Flatbush Avenue around 9 a.m. Thursday, but the woman allegedly yanked the doors open and jumped out as the vehicle was still in motion.
She then hit a pole on the sidewalk and bounced back into the bus, according to police. She suffered injuries to her head and body.
The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three passengers inside the bus were transported to Kings County Hospital with minor injuries, caused by the bus hitting the brakes sharply during the incident. One witness said there was nothing the bus driver could've done to prevent the woman's fatal injuries.
In a statement, the MTA said that New York City Transit and the NYPD are still in the early stages of the investigation.
