Will New York Parks Be Open for the Holiday Weekend?

Albany tries to hash out a deal.

Are 178 of New York’s state parks getting a reprieve?

Yes -- if Governor Paterson and state lawmakers can hash out a last-minute deal, which would allow the parks to open for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend.

A spokesperson for the Governor says they’re hoping to have a deal in place by Thursday morning -- a deal that would not only save the parks from closing but would avoid service cuts to others.

This is the latest in what seems to be an arboreal back and forth between lawmakers and the Governor.

Just yesterday, lawmakers gave a thumbs down to the Governor’s proposed legislation to keep the parks open for the upcoming weekend.

Paterson has said to save the parks, Albany would have to come up with anywhere from five to six million dollars; all of which would have to stem from other budget cuts.
