Water Main Bursts in Queens, Floods Streets: Firefighters

Crews worked to stop streets and basements from flooding after a water main break in Queens. Michael George reports.

Emergency crews worked to keep streets and basements from flooding after a water main break in Queens, authorities said.

Multiple calls about the burst main on 145th Street in Springfield Gardens about 8 p.m., according to the FDNY.

Water could be seen streaming down the residential street, and multiple residents reported flooding on their streets. But officials said that, luckily, there was no damage to any of the homes near the site of the break.

Most of the water had receded by about 11 p.m., but crews were still at the scene. It was not clear what caused the break or when all roads would reopen.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area.
