The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo debuted a set of Geoffrey's tamarin twins on Thursday.
These squirrel-sized monkeys may be small, but they are a big addition to the Prospect Park Zoo. Although it’s too early to tell the sex of the tamarins, zoo keepers will be taking name submissions from June 11-18.
The winning names will be announced on Father's Day, June 20.
Native to South America, the tamarins are adjusting to their home in the zoo’s Animal Lifestyles building, according to zoo officials. They are keeping close to mom and dad, often riding piggyback on their father.
Deforestation in Colombia and Panama is making it harder for these arboreal creatures to survive in their homeland. The Wildlife Conservation Society also works in these areas to reconcile development needs with wildlife and land conservation. See a video on the Prospect Park twins below.
