3-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Hit By Car in Far Rockaway

The NYPD says the boy was run down at about 11:30 a.m. Monday after apparently getting away from his mother and running out into traffic onto a Queens street.

A 3-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car in Far Rockaway, Queens, on Labor Day.

The boy, later identified as Mardichai Yovits, was apparently getting away from his mother and running out into traffic onto Virginia Street near Caffrey Avenue Monday after 11 a.m., officials said.

The driver was a 73-year-old woman who remained at the scene.

Yovits was transported to North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hospital where he succembed to his injuries, according to police.

The driver was not arrested but the investigation remains on going.
