A Long Island boy skateboarding on the side of a road was struck and killed by a car Sunday afternoon, police say.
The accident happened at about 1 p.m. in Syosset, according to police. The boy, 15, was skateboarding with a friend southbound on South Oyster Bay Road, when a 2002 Chevrolet Impala struck him.
The boy, identified as Oleskandr Safronv of Bethpage, slammed into his friend before he hit the ground, hitting his head.
Safronv was taken to North Shore Syosset Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other boy was taken to an area hospital for a fractured ankle.
Police say the boys had been skateboarding along the right side of the roadway, by the shoulder stripe, when they were hit.
The 32-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Impala stayed on the scene, and no criminality is suspected. The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety inspections.
