Tappan Zee Bridge Dangler Disrupts Legislature Meeting

Michael Davitt was kicked out of the meeting but not arrested.

The man who dangled from the Tappan Zee bridge for hours last week briefly disrupted a county legislature meeting and was ordered out, a New York sheriff said Wednesday.

Rockland County Sheriff James Kralik says 54-year-old Michael Davitt became loud and boisterous Tuesday night, complaining about when it would be his turn to speak.

The sheriff says a deputy told Davitt he would have to leave, and Davitt did. He was not arrested.

Davitt staged a three-hour protest Nov. 7, climbing down a rope ladder beneath the bridge. He positioned himself on top of a 24-foot banner that read in part: Rockland Executive Legislature Coverup Retaliation.

He was charged with criminal trespass, reckless endangerment and other crimes and is due in court Thursday. There is no attorney of record.

County officials were familiar with Davitt, who has complained for years that he was wrongly fired from his county job.
