Statue of Jesus decapitated in ‘disturbing attack' outside Queens church

Diocese of Brooklyn

A statue of a child Jesus outside a Queens church was vandalized and decapitated Sunday, according to the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Surveillance video shows a person park an SUV across the street from the church and then walk directly to the statue and take off the head of the state of Jesus, which was found nearby on the ground, according to the Diocese.

The vandalism occurred at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Flushing around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, the church said. The NYPD confirms it received a report Sunday of a statue that was intentionally damaged after a person hit it repeatedly with a shoe.

According to the church, the statue of Child Jesus, stands next to statues of Mary and Joseph, which were
"unsuccessfully target and not damaged." The statues have been a part of the parish for more than 40 years.

Police said there are no arrests yet in the case and the investigation is ongoing. The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force was notified.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the NYPD at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
