A 35-year-old man was taken to the hospital with severe injuries after his car smashed head-on into a snowplow in Rockland County Monday, authorities say.
Police responded to a call about the accident on Route 9W near Congers around 7:20 p.m. and found the front of the man's Toyota completely smashed.
Authorities say the Orangeburg man had hit a New York State Department of Transportation-owned snowplow. Rescuers had to extricate him from the destroyed Toyota; he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The snowplow driver, a 37-year-old man, was not injured.
The highway was closed for a few hours to assist in the investigation. It's not clear what caused the accident.
