Boyfriend Accused of Murder in Death of Missing Conn. Student, 20, Found in Woods: Cops

The boyfriend of a 20-year-old college student from New Haven whose remains were found in a wooded area in Connecticut nearly a month after she was reported missing has been charged with murder in her death, state police said.

Authorities said Saturday that DNA testing identified the human remains found a day earlier near the Bridgeport-Trumbull line as Alyssiah Wiley, an Eastern Connecticut State University student who was reported missing from the school on April 24, four days after she was last seen heading to campus.

Wiley's 30-year-old boyfriend, Jermaine Richards, of Bridgeport, surrendered to police late Saturday afternoon after authorities executed a search warrant at his home and allegedly found evidence connected to her disappearance.

Richards was charged with murder and first-degree kidnapping and is being held on $2 million bond. Information on an attorney for him wasn't immediately available. 

State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said police working with cadaver-sniffing dogs found Wiley's remains. Police also found a black Nissan Altima last week near the Bridgeport-Fairfield line that they said was connected to the case, but officials wouldn't say how it was related.

A medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.
