Cops Searching for Man who Raped 79-Year-Old in Bronx Elevator

Detectives from the Bronx Special Victims Squad are seeking the public’s help in finding brutal thug who was the perpetrator of a heinous sexual assault.

The man followed a 79-year-old woman from the lobby of her Bronx apartment building to the elevator where he punched her in the face, knocked her to the ground and raped her, police said.

The suspect, who was caught on the Westchester Square building's security cameras and is described as in his 20's and about 5’7", entered the building wearing a dark shirt with a white design on the back but left the location wearing a dark shirt with the number 00 on the back. He fled the scene at 1:52 a.m. on Monday.

After surviving the attack the woman ran to her super's apartment and he called 911. She was taken to Jacobi hospital in stable condition.

Residents in the building were stunned at the depraved violence.

"It's a terrible dastardly thing that happened to that lady," said neighbor Herman Rivera.

"Somebody that has no conscience to do this to an older person. No conscience at all," said neighbor Gail Patrick, who described the victim as a quiet, friendly retiree who kept to her self.
