Pregnant Woman Killed by Snowplow in Brooklyn, Baby Saved

A 36-year-old pregnant woman was struck and killed by a snowplow in the parking lot of a Brooklyn supermarket during Thursday's storm, but doctors were able to save her baby, police said.

Min Lin and her husband were loading groceries into their car outside a Sunset Park store when she was hit by a plow backing up, police said.

Lin died at the hospital, but doctors performed a cesarean section and were able to deliver her 6-pound, 6-ounce baby boy, who was nearly full term, the hospital said.

The baby was in critical condition in the neonatal intensive care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said, and a family member was present with him but has declined to talk to the media.

The spokeswoman couldn't say whether the injuries were related to premature birth or trauma from the accident.

A friend of Lin's choked up as she spoke about her.

"She's a good mommy," said Songqing Huang. "My good friend too."

Huang said the baby was Lin's second child.

The plow was privately owned and was being driven by a 42-year-old man.

Last week, a 73-year-old man in Brighton Beach was struck and killed by a backhoe clearing snow.

Some of Lin's neighbors said the accident made them worry about safety during snowstorms,

"The streets are really bad and you've just got to be careful," said Jason Houston.
