A police officer in New Jersey's largest city has replaced two stolen bicycles that a father had purchased for his children for Christmas.
Newark police say the father had hidden the girl's 20-inch pink bike and a boy's 18-inch dirt bike in a hallway of their apartment building on Fourth Avenue. They were stolen on Nov. 14.
Sgt. Juan Gonzalez, after reviewing the theft report, used his own money to replace them.
Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose says the sergeant's act of kindness has turned what could have been a sad holiday into a time of gratitude and celebration for the entire city.
