A small plane had a landing gear issue that forced it to make a belly landing at Long Island's MacArthur Airport Friday, airport officials said.
Authorities said the landing gear of the single-engine aircraft either collapsed or was never put down. The pilot was the only person on the plane when it landed, and no injuries were reported, officials said.
MacArthur Airport officials are working to remove the plane from the runway, and some delays at the airport are to be expected while authorities investigate.
Officials at MacArthur Airport said the Federal Aviation Administration had been notified.
Earlier this week, a Southwest Airlines jet made a hard landing at LaGuardia Airport when its nose gear made contact with the ground before the main landing gear, causing the aircraft to skid and spark along the runway for more than 2,000 feet before coming to rest in a grassy spot off the runway, investigators said.
Sixteen people suffered minor injuries, including several who experienced anxiety attacks, during that landing, and passengers used emergency chutes to leave the aircraft.
