A fake cop in Brooklyn flashed a police badge at a man and ordered him to put his against the wall in an attempt to rob the victim, the NYPD says.
Cops say back on July 24 the unknown man showed a 58-year-old victim a gold police shield near 63rd Street and 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst and restrained his hands using zip-ties.
Once the man’s hands were tied, the suspect went through the victim’s pockets looking for stuff to steal, police said.
The phony cop then drove away empty-handed in a gray Nissan last seen heading west on 63rd Street, officials said. The victim was not injured.
Video from the scene shows the suspect, who was wearing a black hat, charge toward the victim who was on the sidewalk.
Authorities released surveillance footage of the 20-something-year-old man in the hopes of catching him. Witnesses are urged to call Crime Stoppers with tips.
