Emergency responders helped safely deliver a baby girl whose umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck after her mother suddenly collapsed on the floor of her Long Island home and went into labor early Wednesday.
The 30-year-old woman collapsed just before 1:30 a.m. at her home on Hamilton Avenue in Massapequa, police said.
Nassau County officers and a medical technician helped deliver the baby, but her umbilical cord became wrapped around her neck. The infant was not breathing and had a weak pulse. After suctioning her mouth, the baby began breathing on her own and established a healthy color.
Both mother and child were taken to a nearby hospital where they are in good health.
