An NYPD lieutenant and two detectives were suspended after they allegedly drove through the entrance of a hair salon on Staten Island while off duty, then left the scene of the crash, law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York.
The three cops, Lt. Vincent Molinini and detectives Frank Muirhead and Christopher Corulla, were seen at Rookie's Sports Bar last Friday night and as they were leaving, Corulla's car backed through the plate glass front of the salon next door, the sources said.
Surveillance photos show the car inside the salon, which was closed for the day.
"I'm sad that it happened to me, but happy that it happened in this store and not, God forbid, the bar next door because they had 100 people in there," said Crystal Macnair, owner of Hair Do or Dye Salon.
Damage to the salon was estimated at more than $50,000.
The NYPD is investigating whether Corulla had been drinking before plowing his car into the salon.
Investigators will also look into why the three detectives abandoned Corulla's car and left the scene of the accident.
