An NYPD officer is facing more than 40 charges including rape and sexual abuse after authorities say he molested a teenage girl he met online eight years ago, prosecutors say.
Joel Dosseau, a 43-year-old sergeant with the department, was arrested in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, on Wednesday morning and has been arraigned on a 40-count indictment, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office said.
Dosseau met a 14-year-old girl online in 2007 and asked her to send nude photos of herself, according to prosecutors.
The two met in person, and the cop allegedly first had sexual contact with the girl when she was 15. The relationship continued until 2009, when the girl turned 16.
The victim, who is now in her 20s, came forward at some point afterward, prosecutors said.
Dosseau pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included multiple counts each of rape, sexual misconduct and sexual abuse. He was released on $100,000 bond and is next scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1.
Attorney information for Dosseau wasn't immediately available. NBC 4 New York reached out to the union representing NYPD officers for comment.
