The American Kennel Club has revealed New York City's top dog breeds of 2018 — and once again, a familiar furry face reigns supreme.
The French Bulldog took the city’s top spot of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the United States. It also was recognized as the No. 1 pup in Oakland, Las Vegas and Honolulu.
The Rottweiler made its way into the top 10 in NYC this past year, while the Pembroke Welsh Corgi fell from number 10 to number 13. Additionally, Australian Shepherds pawed their way up nine spots, landing at number 20 in 2018.
"The Frenchie held on tightly to the top spot once again in NYC," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "It's no surprise that French Bulldogs topped the charts in the Big Apple - this adaptable breed fits right in to big city living."
According to the AKC, the city's most popular dog breeds in 2018 were:
- French Bulldog
- Labrador Retriever
- Golden Retriever
- Bulldog
- German Shepherd Dog
- Poodle
- Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
- Havanese
- Rottweiler
- Yorkshire Terrier
The French Bulldog was a notable favorite among many of the city’s neighborhoods, including Astoria, Chelsea, the East Village, Financial District, Park Slope, Riverdale, Tribeca and Williamsburg.
