Possible Engine Fire on Argentina Airlines Plane at JFK Airport, Officials Say

What to Know

  • A pilot reported an engine fire at Kennedy Airport on Thursday night
  • Photos posted to social media appear to show fiery sparks around the plane
  • Rescuers said they found no evidence of an engine fire; the plane is being examined

Officials are investigating a possible small engine fire on a plane bound for Buenos Aires at Kennedy Airport.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the pilot of an Argentina Airlines flight reported the engine fire late Thursday night while the plane was on the runway preparing for takeoff.

Photos posted to Twitter and other social media sites appear to show a bright light emanating from beneath the plane as it was stopped at the tarmac.

But when rescue trucks arrived they found no evidence of a fire, Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said. The plane taxied back to the gate for further examination.

No injuries were reported.
