A man was slashed at a subway station in Queens on Tuesday afternoon and police are still searching for a couple behind the gruesome attack.
Crews were working to clean up the blood at the Beach 90th Street station in Far Rockaway on Tuesday night, but there was still a heavy smell of bleach in the air.
Investigators say just hours earlier around 4:15 p.m. a brutal assault that began on the platform of the station ended at the turnstiles.
A 30-year-old man got into an argument with a couple on the platform. Soon one of them pulled out a knife and slashed the man’s face and arm, leaving puddles of blood around the station.
The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was undergoing surgery on Tuesday evening. He was listed in serious but stable condition.
Many straphangers found news of the slashing unsettling.
“It’s a shame,” Brenda Smith said. “That’s what I think.”

Other commuters were less shocked. Jamel Smith said violent incidents like the one on Tuesday weren’t all that uncommon.
“I’m sorry to hear about the violence,” Smith said. “But this type of thing goes down out here sometimes.”
Police were searching Queens for the couple on Tuesday night. The NYPD said they believe the man and woman are in their 20s.
