Fire crews had to deal with whipping winds as they battled a raging fire in Queens early Tuesday morning.
Neighbors described embers flying around in the air as the fire raged at two houses and three garages around 2 a.m. on 91st Street.
In all, some 150 firefighters were on the scene fighting the blaze. They encountered heavy flames and smoke, and it took more than an hour for them to gain control.
“I looked out the window and I see one house was on fire — that happened for 6 or 7 minutes — and then the other house went on fire too, because there was a lot of wind,” one neighbor said.
Everyone was able to get out of the houses safely. Six firefighters suffered minor injuries, including strains and sprains.
The cause of the fire is unknown, although auto repairs were being done at one or more of the garages, according to FDNY Chief Michael Gala.

Luckily, propane tanks near the garages didn’t explode.
Streets in the area were still blocked off by fire trucks early Tuesday morning, as winds kicked up again.
