Computer Glitch at JFK Airport Causes Massive Check-in Lines

A computer outage at JFK Airport's Terminal 7 caused massive check-in delays and long lines Sunday evening into early Monday morning.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Neal Buccino said a Verizon server providing Internet service had problems at about 4 p.m. Sunday, which required manual check-in.

At one point Sunday night, more than 1,000 passengers were waiting in line to get checked in.

"It's official: Hell isn't other people. It's JFK #terminal7," Emma Burnell tweeted.

A photo posted on Twitter appeared to show a massive line at the Qantas check-in line, although the photo couldn't immediately be confirmed. Qantas is a partner of British Airways, which operates Terminal 7 and leases space to other carriers.

Buccino said the crowds were orderly and that British Airways made regular announcements.

The number of people waiting in line dropped to about 80 by midnight, Buccino said.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Verizon said that the server was back on and that no problems were anticipated for Monday morning.
