NJ Teacher Charged With Smoking Pot With Student: Prosecutor

A high school teacher in New Jersey was indicted on charges accusing him of smoking marijuana with a student, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Michael Fleming, 30, a teacher at West Milford High School, is accused of smoking pot with a student and engaging in inappropriate communications with another student at his school during a period spanning Nov. 1, 2013 through last March, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes.

Details about the charges weren't available.

Fleming, a Hackensack resident, was charged with two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Each count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Fleming was suspended with pay after his arrest in April, according to school officials.

There was no information as to whether he had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
