A 65-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the school bus she was driving hit a tractor-trailer parked on the side of a highway in Middletown Friday, authorities say.
Beverly Cerbone, of Port Monmouth, hit the truck on the shoulder of Route 35 in the southbound lanes, just south of New Monmouth Road.
The cab of the bus was completely obliterated in the accident. Cerbone was the only one on the bus.
The tractor-trailer driver was not in his vehicle at the time of the accident.
Cerbone is expected to survive.
