NJ Man Indicted in Neighbor's Stabbing Death

Prosecutor's office says suspect brutally stabbed victim to death after an argument

A man who allegedly stabbed his upstairs neighbor after they argued at a northern New Jersey apartment complex has been indicted on murder charges.

Forty-nine-year-old man Stephen Baldino of Lyndhurst also faces charges of hindering apprehension and weapons offenses in the indictment handed up this week by a Bergen County grand jury. He remains jailed on $2 million cash bail.

Prosecutors say Baldino stabbed 52-year-old Lydja Mitchell multiple times inside her apartment on March 5 after they argued over an unknown matter. Police found Mitchell's body several hours later after another neighbor became concerned when they could not contact Mitchell.

Investigators later seized "numerous pieces of evidence" inside Baldino's apartment, including clothing and footwear that was soaking in bleach.
