New York Woman Gets 20 Years in Prison for Killing Mom for Money

Prosecutors say Julie Martin was smothered with a pillow in her Ontario home in February 2017

A 23-year-old western New York woman has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for hiring a hit man to kill her mother for $30,000 in life insurance money.

Jasmine Harlee of Sodus admitted planning the murder of her mother, 52-year-old Julie Martin. She was sentenced Thursday in Wayne County Court.

Prosecutors say Martin was smothered with a pillow in her home in the Wayne County town of Ontario in February 2017.

Authorities say Harlee and her boyfriend Knowledge Couser recruited Couser's 19-year-old brother Davontae Devine and another man to kill Martin.

Couser and Devine have pleaded guilty to murder, and 19-year-old Malquan Drayton has pleaded guilty to robbery charges in connection to the crime.
