NYT Sends NYPD Note Over Treatment of Photographer

A YouTube video shows a police officer blocking a New York Times photographer at a protest Monday

A lawyer for The New York Times has sent a message to the New York Police Department's head spokesman to express disappointment about the treatment of a freelance photographer whose interaction with officers was caught on video and posted online.

Assistant General Counsel George Freeman says the YouTube video shows an officer "bobbing and weaving" to block Robert Stolarik from photographing arrests at an Occupy Wall Street protest Monday in Manhattan.

Freeman says the interaction seems to violate police Commissioner Raymond Kelly's recent order forbidding officers from unreasonably interfering with media access during news coverage.

Kelly's message was issued after a coalition of media outlets including the Times, The Associated Press and NBC New York sent letters to city officials protesting their treatment during the clear-out of the Occupy Wall Street encampment.
