It may feel more like September than November Wednesday, but many New Yorkers will be bundling up like it is January for the next several days as the arctic system that dumped 2 feet of snow on the Midwest swirls east into the tri-state area, bringing snow showers and below-normal temperatures along with it.
Highs Wednesday will climb into the upper 60s in New York City and surrounding areas, but Storm Team 4 forecasts that temperatures will plummet over the next several days.
The mercury is forecast to drop into the 30s and 40s overnight and won’t rebound much Thursday, with high temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below where it was on Wednesday.
The front will continue to work its way through the region Thursday night and and will drop rain and wet snow showers early Friday. Snow accumulation is unlikely, however, as ground temperatures stay above freezing.
Blustery temperatures well below seasonal averages are expected to continue to chill the region through the weekend, Storm Team 4 says. High temperatures are forecast to only hit the mid 40s Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Relief from the cold isn’t expected to come next week, either. Another round of rain is expected Monday as high temperatures hang in the 40s. It could be even colder Tuesday, with highs not making it out of the 30s.
The system is the same one that dumped several feet of snow on Michigan, Wisconsin and other parts of the Upper Midwest. It has already been blamed for at least four deaths and is expected to bring blustery temperatures to the entire East Coast over the next several days, with only parts of Florida escaping the chill.
