A New Jersey Transit train had to be hauled to Penn Station by a rescue train after it became stuck in a Hudson River Tunnel on Wednesday afternoon.
The Raritan Valley Line train was heading to Penn Station when mechanical problems caused it to become disabled in one of the tunnels under the Hudson River around 12:30 p.m.
Nearly an hour later, NJ Transit said the train was still stuck in the tunnel and that a rescue train was being sent to get it. The agency said that the train had lights and heat and that no injuries had been reported.
“Anybody else been sitting on the train in the tunnel for over an hour and now waiting for a rescue train? #goodtimes” Li Faustino posted to Facebook.
The stranded train led to delays and cancellations on the Raritan Valley Line, including at least one train going in the opposite direction.
The rescue train coupled with the disabled train and was heading back to Penn Station shortly after 1:30 p.m.
