Navy SEAL From Queens Killed in Training Accident in Virginia

One of the two Navy SEALs who died in a training accident in a swimming pool in Virginia has been identified as a Queens native.

Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Seth Cody Lewis died after being found unresponsive at the bottom of a combat swimming facility on Friday in Virginia Beach, military officials say.

Lewis was pulled from the pool along with Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Brett Allen Marihugh of Livonia, Michigan. Lewis died later Friday; Marihugh succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

A spokesman for the Navy says both sailors were members of Naval Special Warfare Group 2.

Lewis served in the U.S. Marine Corps until becoming a SEAL in 2006. He served in multiple tours to Afghanistan and Iraq and had earned a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and multiple medals of valor.

Lewis is survived by a his wife Kristy.

The investigation into his death is ongoing.
