MTA Bus Struck With Bullets During Shooting in Queens: NYPD

A city bus was struck by stray bullets in Queens when a shooting broke out on a street nearby, though none of the passengers on it were injured, police say.

A 21-year-old man on the street was taken to the hospital after being shot in the leg around 8:15 p.m. near Beach 67th Street and Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway, police said. He's expected to be OK.

The Q22 bus was parked at a bus stop at Beach 73rd Street when two stray bullets hit windows near the driver's side.

About 35 people were on the bus, according to officials. Neither the driver nor the passengers were hit.

The head of bus drivers union Local 1179, John Lyons, said the driver is "shaken up" but OK.

"I worked this route for years, and I never had any issues," he added.
