A motorcyclist has died after he crashed into a truck delivering trees to a nursery on Long Island Tuesday evening, sparking a large fire that engulfed the truck, police said.
Suffolk police said the motorcyclist, 53-year-old Leonard Mastro, hit the back of a tractor-trailer turning right into Bissett Nursery from Long Island Avenue in Holtsville at about 8 p.m.
Mastro was ejected from the motorcycle, and the bike was dragged under the truck and caught fire, police said.
He was taken to Stony Brook Hospital by ambulance, where he died Wednesday morning, police said.
The driver of the truck, who is from North Carolina, wasn't injured, police said.
Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to call them at 631-854-8652.
