A 58-year-old Manhattan teacher has been arrested after officials say she pushed a third-grade student to the ground and dragged him 15 feet across a classroom floor by his ankles.

Rose Marie Sylvester, who had been teaching at Mosaic Preparatory Academy in East Harlem since 2015, was charged Tuesday with child endangerment.

Police said Sylvester also allegedly pushed the boy’s leg above his head in the incident that investigators said happened back in March.

While she has no prior criminal record, Sylvester was charged with misconduct the year before she joined the teaching staff at Mosaic Prep. An arbitrator issued a $10,000 fine.

New York City’s Special Commissioner of Investigation says Sylvester’s alleged behavior has “no place in New York City Schools and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

The Department of Education echoed those sentiments, saying in a statement, "This alleged disturbing behavior has absolutely no place in our schools. Ms. Sylvester has been reassigned since June and we have been actively pursuing her termination and removal from payroll."
